Same company, two tiers
HiLook is Hikvision’s own value brand. It’s built on similar hardware but with a trimmed feature set to hit a lower price — same manufacturer, same reliability reputation, same app ecosystem. So choosing HiLook isn’t buying an unknown budget brand; it’s buying Hikvision’s engineering without the premium features you may not need.
Night vision: ColorVu vs infrared
This is the biggest real-world difference. Standard infrared (IR) night vision switches to black-and-white in the dark. Hikvision ColorVu uses a larger-aperture lens plus a supplementary warm light to record full colour right through the night — so you can actually tell the colour of a car or someone’s clothing. Since most break-ins happen after dark, colour footage can be the difference between useful evidence and a grey blur. Smart detection: AcuSense vs basic motion
Hikvision AcuSense works out whether movement is a person or a vehicle and ignores everything else (cats, rain, moving shadows). That means far fewer false alerts on your phone, and you can search back through recordings by “person” or “vehicle” instead of scrubbing hours of footage. Standard HiLook models use basic motion detection — anything that moves triggers it — though newer HiLook models are starting to add AcuSense too.
Image quality & resolution
Both ranges run from 2MP all the way up to 8MP (4K), so resolution is more about which model you pick than which brand.
