How to Use the Hikvision SADP Tool

SADP (Search Active Device Protocol) is Hikvision's free PC and Mac tool that finds every Hikvision camera, NVR and DVR on your network and lets you see and change their IP address, activate new devices and start a password reset. It's the first tool to reach for when you can't find or log in to a device.
What you need
A Windows or Mac computer on the same network as your Hikvision device, and the SADP tool downloaded from the official Hikvision support site. Make sure the camera or recorder is powered on (via PoE or its power supply).
Step by step
- Download and install SADP from the Hikvision support website and run it as administrator.
- Open SADP - it automatically scans your network and lists every Hikvision device it finds, with its IP address, status and serial number.
- Find your device in the list. You can now see its IP address (useful for logging in via a web browser).
- Change the IP if needed - tick the device, enter the admin password, and edit the IP so it matches your network range.
- Activate a new device - if a device shows as "Inactive", select it and set an admin password to activate it.

Finding a camera's IP so you can view it in a browser, fixing an IP clash, activating brand-new devices, and starting a password reset if you've been locked out.
